Amsterdam, Netherlands –The parking facilities of VU Amsterdam and Amsterdam UMC are now equipped with a camera-based parking guidance system, the Portier Vision. This cutting-edge technology aims to enhance safety, improve traffic flow, and streamline parking management for employees, patients and visitors. There are three separate parking facilities totalling into approximately 1500 parking spaces that are now covered by Portier parking guidance products.

The Portier Vision guidance system features vehicle and license plate recognition, enabling real-time monitoring and analysis of individual parking space occupancy within the boundaries of the European privacy rules. License plate recognition also helps drivers quickly locate their vehicle when returning by using a search kiosk in the hospital receptions. In addition to those functionalities, system can be interfaced for example with parking access and revenue control system for more in-depth analytics and functionalities.

Several Portier parking guidance displays are part of the installation directing drivers directly towards available parking spaces as wells to disabled or EV charging spaces when needed. This feature is essential part of the overall service especially in larger parking facilities and reinforces an easy and comfortable parking experience.

Parkeerbedrijf VU-VUmc sees parking guidance as an important investment into its premises. With this new system Parkeerbedrijf VU-VUmc aims to ease the experience for visitors, some of whom may be feeling anxious or preoccupied as they come for a medical appointment or to support a loved one. Secondly, prior to investing in the guidance system, Parkeerbedrijf VU-VUmc performed an in-depth analysis of driver behaviour and learned that there is a massive amount of unnecessary driving due to the search for available spaces – something which might create unnecessary stress, increases the risks, and also burdens the environment.
This project underscores the commitment to adopting smart technologies that foster sustainability and enhance the overall campus experience. It is expected that the new system will significantly reduce wait times and improve the convenience of parking for all users.

Portier – Making the Right Decisions!
Key benefits of the Portier Vision indoor parking camera system include:
- Real-Time Monitoring: Cameras equipped with motion detection and license plate recognition operate continuously, ensuring efficient space usage and effective guidance to available spaces.
- Guidance for Drivers: Portier parking guidance displays help drivers towards available parking spaces as well as inform where special parking spaces are located such as EV and disabled parking.
- Data Analytics: The system gathers valuable data on parking patterns, assisting parking operators in making informed decisions regarding parking management and infrastructure development.
- User-Friendly Interface: The information collected will be available through an easy-to-use cloud-based parking guidance platform, Portier HOST. Our platform approach gives an opportunity to freely mix different technologies even within the same installation and on the other hand, multiple facilities with varying technologies can still be operated with the same software solution.
